How to feel your best this summer

Ah summer. Depending on where you live its either the season you have been waiting for to come or waiting to end. Here in Colorado, personally it gets wayyy too hot for me haha.. and of course there are a million things to love about this season.

There are common ailments people deal with in these hot months.

  • Lowered energy

  • Chronic dehydration

  • Allergies

  • Less deep sleep due to more hours of sunlight

  • Summer colds

  • Heat rashes; eczema

I thought I would dive into a couple of these and give some tips to move past these and enjoy the sun and longer days.

Allergies

What are allergies anyways? Cue spring — pollen in the air, new growth happening, increased levels of dust, more time around nature - why does this wonderful time have to aggravate so many of us?

Sneezing, watery eyes, sniffling, hives.. ugh! I have done a bunch of posts on allergies and an article all about them. Click here to refresh and snag some anti-allergy supplements.

Lowered energy

This can be multi-factorial and also likely a result of doing more. Am I right? Its nice out… more activities, more BBQ’s, festivals, less sleep, more socializing and maybe less water and choosing the right foods for you.

So what can we do? There is a lot we can do and it starts with keeping stress low and supporting your adrenals. I did a whole course on this with multiple suggestions. Check it out here.

Also, if you know you’re going to be super busy, prioritize water and sleep. Or make sure your food is on par and you are keeping your stress in check. We feel low energy when it all goes out the window so pick something and prioritize that.

Chronic dehydration

Let’s chat minerals. Often times you can be slamming water and still be dehydrated. How is that possible?

The problem often is that our salt consumption is too low. I suggest using minerals and electrolytes in your water. You’ll find you hold onto your water more and feel more hydrated. You’ll always find you have more energy. Salt is incredibly important and has been demonized long enough.

My favorite electrolytes are LMNT and you can try and free sample pack here.

Less deep sleep

The sun is out longer and make prevent you from getting in bed earlier and has you waking up at 5 am. There are a couple hacks to help with this. I would say ideally, its best to synchronize with the natural circadian rhythm of the earth and our bodies, meaning that going to bed when the sun goes to bed and waking up with it rising is so good for our body and hormones.

However I know you may have had a late night and could use the extra zzz’s in the morning, so what can we do?

  • Eye cover can be super helpful to keep the light out if you’re trying to get to bed early or want to sleep in a little bit later

  • Keeping your room nice and cold will help the hours of sleep you are getting, be deeper

  • Use supplements like phosphatidylserine, magnesium glycinate and B6 to help you get deeper sleep, wake up less in the middle of the night and wind down easier. Snag your supplements here.

  • Minerals before bed will help detox (especially if you enjoyed a summer night adult beverage) as will charcoal

Summer colds

Aren’t they the pits!? And usually very unexpected.

Immune support is helpful at any season; I think we tend to forget about summer. My favorite immune supplements are in my online pharmacy. Check them out here.

What else supports the immune system? You guessed it. Hydration, rest, low stress, plenty of sleep, low sugar diet and exercise.

Heat rashes and eczema

Heat rashes and eczema and exceedingly more common in the hot months. It can be indicative of an underlying fungal issue in the body and definitely worth getting checked out.

Staying in sweaty clothes longer than we should and exposure to more outdoor allergens can also play a role.

This is JUST the tip of the iceberg when it comes to supporting the body for summer. As you can see there are so many potential root causes.

Any questions? would love to hear from you!
